From the acceptance speech by Rick Prelinger:

"In order for everyone to have access to the world's great libraries and archives at home, in their school, at a library, a community center or an Internet café, we need to think carefully about the barriers that separate knowledge from those who desperately need it. In many parts of the world, access to knowledge can mean the difference between health and sickness, between education and ignorance, and between stability and a precarious existence."

I'm pretty sure that i frequently take so much of what i have access to for granted, and don't often enough stop to consider the often purposely-imposed "darknessess" that many are unfortunately forced to live under. No idealist am i, but it's refreshing to know that this archive, and seemingly one of its overall purposes, is to spread light into that darkness. A common enough metaphor, but one that still speaks volumes in terms of possibilities. Way to go LMA.
